Cut several cleats out of scrap wood. Glue and nail them in place behind the existing panel of the cabinet.

Glue and nail to the side walls for upper support making sure they would be level to keep the extension face plate level with existing cabinets.

Measure and cut the extension face plate to length, then nail to the cleats.

Cut the crown molding to the correct length, then glue and nail to the top of the extension faceplate. Cut to length the decorative molding and nail into place over the area where the cabinet and extension faceplate meet.

Fill nail holes. Sand cabinets, new extension and molding.

Prime then paint. All finished!

We are giving our laundry room a makeover! Most of the makeover is painting, but we also did this really inexpensive modification to our cabinets that has taken them to a whole new level (get it?) By simply using some wood and  molding to bring the cabinets to the ceiling, we changed the look of the entire room! You can easily extend your cabinets too!
